Have your say on the safe use of e-scooters and e-bikes
26 June 2026
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport is seeking feedback on the laws for e‑scooters, personal mobility devices (PMD), and e‑bikes in South Australia.
These devices provide flexible and affordable travel options and are becoming an increasingly common way to get around. To keep pace with their growing use, the Department is reviewing whether current regulations remain fit for purpose.
As their use continues to grow, it’s important the laws remain clear, practical and focused on safety.
Personal Mobility Devices
Feedback is being sought on the laws for:
- e‑scooters
- e‑skateboards
- other similar devices.
This includes how they are used on public roads and paths, both privately owned and shared devices.
E‑bikes
Feedback is also being sought on the current framework for power‑assisted bicycles (e‑bikes).
In addition to general use, the Department is seeking community views on:
- how non‑compliant devices should be treated
- whether they should remain prohibited for road use or be regulated under another vehicle class, such as mopeds or motorcycles.
Your feedback will:
- help determine whether the current regulations are working or if changes are needed to improve safety, usability and enforceability
- help shape a safer future for all road users.
