Service SA - Extra security for mySAGOV accounts

Extra security for mySAGOV accounts

15 June 2026

All mySAGOV accounts now require multi-factor authentication (MFA) when signing in. This provides an additional layer of security for users.

MFA adds an extra step to the login process by requiring a verification code alongside your email and password. This simple change helps better protect your personal and business information.

For individuals

Users can choose how they receive their verification code:

  • via text message (SMS)
  • through an authenticator (code generator) app.

If you don’t have a smartphone, you can continue to receive your code by SMS. However, if you are travelling or living overseas, SMS codes may not be available, so you will need to use an authenticator app. If you travel regularly, using an app is recommended to ensure uninterrupted access to your account.

For businesses

If your organisation has multiple staff accessing a mySAGOV account, there are secure and convenient options available.

Businesses can assign roles so staff can log in using their own individual accounts.
