First Nations place names to be included on SA Driver's Licences
14 August 2021
The theme of NAIDOC Week 2021 was Heal Country! which calls on all Australians to recognise, protect and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage. To celebrate and acknowledge the traditional custodians of our land, South Australians now have the option to include the First Nations place name on their driver’s licence.
This new feature provides all South Australians with the option to include the First Nations place name of the location where they currently live. The First Nations place name will be displayed above the residential address on a driver’s licence, learner’s permit or proof of age card.
The easiest way to update your address to include the First Nations place name on your driver’s licence, is by logging in to your mySA GOV account and select ‘Update Address’ from your dashboard. The First Nations place name is to be entered in the top line of the “New Residential address” field. Once updated, you can access a digital drivers licence, learner’s permit or proof of age card displaying the First Nations place name instantly through the mySA GOV app. Alternatively, you can view other options for changing your address here.
To find First Nations place names, please visit the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies website.
